Endangered

went into the city today for National Threatened Species Day. The actual day is Sunday but today a few zoos and wildlife parks brought in some of our endangered wildlife to help educate and raise funds - for a small donation I got to hold this beautiful 3 month old Tassie Devil

Aww so cute! I would have tucked it in my pocket and run ;) Which propably wouldn´t have been a good idea since I have no idea what it is or what to feed him....

@susale LOL it is a little Tassie Devil and at this age would still be on milk but as they grow they eat meat carcasses
September 5th, 2014
@gigiflower there were 3 of them there and their human dad was very protective hahahaha

Great to see this wee chap and to know they are protecting them. Not really 'devils' are they!

September 5th, 2014
Oh how cute. No wonder you wanted to take it home.
September 5th, 2014
@susale I google too Suse - I am very curious about things - they are a very unusual carnivorous marsupial and a favourite of mine
September 5th, 2014
Oh precious...you are so lucky. Looks a bit like a puppy.
September 5th, 2014
How sweet! I'd have been tempted too.

@redpants I still think they are cute as adults - they are a fav of mine along with wombats - much prefer them over koalas

I agree! My niece has a passion for them as well ... she is studying zoology & helping on a research project with them. Have a great weekend :p

It kind of surprises me to hear that Tasmanian Devils are endangered. They are kind of cute in a real dangerous way. I have seen them at the Toronto Zoo before and their growl or scream is kind of blood curdling lol
September 6th, 2014
@mikekutz there sound is quite unique and blood curdling - that sound and the red of their ears is what got them their name - they are at serious risk of extinction from the highly contagious devil facial tumour disease (DFTD).
September 6th, 2014
@annied really. that is very interesting. you always assume that being on the endangered list is because of habitat. thanks for the info
September 6th, 2014
That's great Annie.
September 6th, 2014
@mikekutz you are welcome - I love the devils they are my favourite little Aussie along with wombats
