One of the convict workshops on Cockatoo Island.

The Convict Workshops date back to the 1840s. The rooms feature convict slab sandstone walls, raw concrete floors, large arched windows and high ceilings. There are large pieces of World War I and II era machinery embedded into the floor of two of the buildings. The buildings are part of the island's industrial precinct.
Looks and sounds quite severe. Was it part of a jail system?

@vignouse they do use these buildings for some functions nowadays
