The red kangaroo (Macropus rufus) is the largest of all kangaroos, the largest mammal native to Australia, and the largest extant marsupial. It is found across mainland Australia, avoiding only the more fertile areas in the south, the east coast, and the northern rainforests.
They can have a body length of up to 1.4m and tail up to 1m and males can weigh around 90kg.
Awesome! Curious, though... I am in awe of this animal because it's one I never see (at the zoo only) Four people who see them more regularly and in their natural habitat, are they as awesome? I find most wildlife to be mesmerizing. Even rabbits, which are everywhere here and a lot of people find annoying or pesky. Maybe it's just the photographer in me? I think just about anything is worth stopping to look at. ...so maybe asking another photographer isn't the best way to get an accurate answer. ;)
@irishmamacita10 I love all animals too and will always stop and take time to look at them if I am able - I have only seen grey kangaroos in the wild - the reds I see at the zoo and wildlife parks - they are awesome - can be dangerous - and are huge as I found out once when I scratched one under the chin and he balanced on his tail and put his paws on my shoulder - I am almost 6 foot and he was taller than me - it took the ranger to get him down. Seeing a joey with it's head or legs sticking out of the pouch is a beautiful sight
