Cowra-1

Cowra is home of the largest prisoner of war breakout in modern military history. At 1.50am on 5 August 1944, over 1000 Japanese prisoners launched a mass escape from the Prisoner of War Campsite. 231 Japanese prisoners and four Australian soldiers lives were lost.
This is along the road to the POW Camp and War Cemeteries - I will be posting images from both over the next couple of weeks.
I remember going to Antitem 2 years ago (the site of the bloodiest and worst Civil War Battle in the U. S.) and having a surreal sense of reality. It was so peaceful and quiet compared to the horrific fight that took place there. This place seems to have a similar feeling. So pretty now but back then...

A great shot and very interesting history.

We can not forget these things. We need to be reminded of the horrors of war so maybe we will think twice in the future.

Surreal is a great choice and your processing is really effective.

A lovely scene that shows none of its bleak history.
