Mouila is a female Western Lowland Gorilla who arrived at Taronga Zoo from Apenhuel in 1996 as part of the international breeding program. I have been watching and photographing Mouila and the rest of the troop for almost 20 years. A couple of years ago Mouila and Mahali along with Kibabu, Kriba and Kipenzi were moved to Mogo Zoo.
Sadly Mouila passed away this week. She was in her twilight years (43) and had a range of age related health issues. She was a great mother and grandmother and touched the hearts of many around the world. She will be missed.
Wonderful shot of her kind face They are both so intense on that banana .Such a shame that life must come to an end on a wonderful creature . Super viewed on black !
@basqgirl me either....last year another Mouila passed away at 55years of age :) @graemestevens yeh it works for gorillas hahaha @gigiflower thank you Miss Sam she was a gorgeous girl @beryl thank you so much Beryl - I was quite sad
Born in Cameroon in 1972. Came to Holland in 1974 and was the third Gorilla to give birth (Kriba) in captivity world wide in August 1979. As you mentioned above, Kriba is also living in Mogo Zoo nowadays. Sad news.
@mastermek yes! You know your gorilla...very sad....I have photos of Kriba too with her last ypung one Kipenzi....I would spend hours watching them at Taronga. Need to check out the new troop...haven't been in a while....need to get to Mogo too.
