I don't know what kind of snake it is, but I know there are only 2 poisonous snakes native to my state (copperheads and rattle snakes), and I know that's not either of them.
Although he was fairly long, he has a pretty small head, I don't think he could have done me any harm if he wanted to. His first instinct was to freeze in place when he saw me. When I got the camera out and down on his level, he sure seemed interested in the camera, which is how I got that nice head-on shot.
