Anyone who plays any video game set in a sci-fi universe knows that the future is full of crates, and their often-explosive cousin, the barrel. I decided my spaceship diorama needed some background clutter, so the sci-fi crate was my go-to.
The first image is my design in Tinkercad. The 2nd is the actual crates I 3d printed, painted, weathered, and aged, to make them fit in.
The 3rd image is cut from a larger photo with them actually in use in the background, poorly lit, out of focus, and covered in smoke, where you can see precisely none of the detail or effort I put into them. I could have put any old thing back there, you'd hardly know the difference. But I know they're there and, more importantly, I had fun making them.
