at the ymca dinner the other night, my young one also had a 'celebrity' encounter--he met our mayor! he was nervous to approach her, but she was so warm and gracious. he wanted to have the opportunity to tell her 'thank you', because last year in school he wrote her a letter, and she wrote him back!! he was amazed to receive a personal letter--he felt so special.
That's really wonderful! And really cool he can make a connection to politics in general. I try to make my girls aware of how politics/governments work and what's happening in the world. Hopefully some of it sinks in, but I swear most of the time they probably hear, "Blah, blah, mom's talking again, blah."
What a lovely, thoughtful gesture on her part to respond to his letter, and to be there with Brock for such a nice picture when they finally met! You never know what occasion in a child's life crystalizes into a defining moment. He's sure to look back on this fondly at the very least!
