The budgerigars arrived in Winton at the same time we did. We spent many hours trying to catch a good photo. If only I had my 150-600mm with me. It arrived yesterday after a three month wait!
Thanks so much for the great response to my lunar eclipse collage, it's now on the PP!
What a wonderful capture. I lived in Oz for 25 years but only saw a flock once in all that time, that was out back of Perenjori in WA and I was so excited to see them. FAV
@judithdeacon Wow, 25 yrs is a long time! We don't see them too often where I live but they are in Winton (where I took this pic) every year. I was quite excited to see them too, there were so many.
Lovely shot Sheralee. And 150-600? Wow. That is a seriously big lens. What brand?
When I was a young whipper snapper, I used to breed budgies and I always wanted to see a flock of wild ones. Finally managed to tick this off my bucket list in 1997 (I think) when were driving from Bris to Mt Isa. See my pic at http://365project.org/terryliv/from-the-archiv/2014-03-14
Aren't they a sight to see, I remember green swarms flowing through the skies when we lived in NW QLD. Great shot against that vivid blue outback sky. Fav :)
@terryliv It was obviously a good season that year Poppo, it is very, very dry out there at the moment. David is from Winton and grew up roaming the channels and chasing budgies amongst other things. We will probably be out there next September so I will drag my Bazooka (Tamron 150-600mm) with me and see what I can capture.
@nicolecampbell Just realised I didn't answer your question fully... I've really only taken half a dozen shots with the new lens so I will try to give it a better workout this weekend. So far it's looking good although I have tennis elbow at the moment so I don't want to strain it too much and that thing really is a monster to hold isn't it?
