I started this painting August 17th when my painting pals came here for the day to paint in the loft. The same evening I did something to my back that has kept me from this Icelandic scene since then. Stretching, resting and many trips to my chiropractor have finally put me back in business. We're getting together tomorrow at another mate's house and I can't wait to oil up my brushes and hands again. I love the smell paint, the group creativity and just being with these women that I have painted with since 2002.
This canvas depicts some of the geothermal surroundings bordering the "Secret Lagoon", Gamla Laugin, in Iceland. We relaxed in the pool there on our trip last October. It's the country's oldest natural swimming pool.
From their website...
Secret Lagoon natural hot springs are located in the small village called Fludir and are in the Golden Circle area. We have kept it natural and unique for our guests so they can get the true Icelandic feeling. The pool’s natural surroundings and steam rising into the air gives the place a magical feeling. The warm water stays at 38-40 Celsius all year. In the whole area there are several geothermal spots and a little Geysir which erupts every 5 minutes, showing off for the guests relaxing in the hot spring. During winter, the northern lights often give a great lightshow above Secret Lagoon. What better way to view the spectacular light show overhead than relaxing in the pool’s warm water?
