Pear Blossoms by berelaxed

Pear Blossoms

We're having a restful day with gentle rain falling outside. It's good for our bones and muscles to rest after the work yesterday. It's also good for our lawn, we had some compost and natural fertilizer spread last week. We also had so little snow this past winter that we need rain coming into the drier summer season.

These wet blossoms are from our old pear tree just outside our sitting room, TV room window. It's where my grandparents spent most of their time as well when they lived here with the pear tree always in sight. It was probably planted by the Brighams, the original family who build the house and lived here between 1893 and 1928. It was their summer house, they resided in Brookline during the winter. He was a doctor, serving as a surgeon in the Civil War and then went on to work as a medical librarian in Boston. We love that the tree has lived so long. It bears fruit that the rabbits munch and is looking remarkably better since we had it trimmed, sprayed and fertilized. It's basically hollow as well and has long served as a safety escape for chipmunks and squirrels and once a lovely nest for a family of Tufted Titmice. I know it was hollow even in the 50s from old photos with my grandfather. It's a spot favorited by all of our birds before and after snatching peanuts from the patio.

For the Record,
This day came in with steady, soft rain and cool temps.

All hands resting.
Do you think there will be any mud season this year? The detail is sensational.
