A Bird's Bill of Fare. by berelaxed

A Bird's Bill of Fare.

I wish I knew if this scamp is the male or female of our capricious Carolina Wren couple. The male is slightly bigger and the only one who sings. These scrappy, peanut butter colored charmers love insects, tough to find in the winter, but they comb the stone wall industriously and suet as well.I'm having trouble getting beef suet from the meat cutters at the counter in the grocery shops recently. Our resident dozen of gray squirrels like the suet cakes made especially for birds way too much.
They always find a way to get most of the cakes.

This wren was busy with this peanut half on the doorstep. I was able to catch the delight through the kitchen window. I do love these wrens from Carolina.

Carolina Wren diet needs...

"Although sunflower seeds might attract more colorful birds, Carolina Wrens generally prefer suet and peanuts. One peanut alone can provide more than a third of their daily metabolic need! "

For the Record,
This day came in cold, but has warmed up a bit, but not above freezing. A big rainstorm is on the way.

All hands wary
A very handsome bird, I love a wren.
