Well, we're back from the Liver Specialist appointment with our pocketbook $717.00 lighter. I don't have much to share, we're waiting for the blood panel to tell the liver tale. Merry lost just a bit of weight, passed but passed her physical exam. For the first time she had her blood pressure taken. A bit of a shaved paw and a tiny cuff. We could hear her heartbeat. That was perfectly normal (and cost $98 of the total bill.) The doctor wanted to check that because high BP can cause eye and vision problems. She borrowed a special light from the ophthalmology department to look into her eyes. She could not see through the lens to the retina, so, cataracts? There could be a secondary condition causing the dimming of the corneas. She doesn't think Merry is totally blind. We managed to get an ophthalmology appointment for next Wedne$day.
We really don't know much more until the vet calls when the blood panel results are in. Thank you for all your kind words. I will add to this post or report back tomorrow. We're all exhausted. I don't really know how to feel at the moment, the not knowing is always so hard. We are firm on not putting Merry through painful heroics, but maybe it will not come to that decision right now.
For the Record,
This day came in sunny and warmer than yesterday.
I retired from public school teaching after happily spending twenty eight years playing in Kindergarten. Now I fill my days watching cat antics, taking endless...
@corinnec Normal, urine and kidney values, thyroid is normal, no fever but a slightly elevated white blood cell count, red cell count normal. Some liver values better, bilirubin count is worse. Still a puzzle, but not horrible. She wants to have another ultrasound after the eye exam. $$$$$$
