Egg Coddler by beryl

Egg Coddler

My bit of chrome !! *word of the day Aug 2013 A coddled egg is a cross between a poached egg and a boiled egg.
Method .
Break an egg into a greased egg coddler screw on the lid .
Place the coddler into a pan of water & bring to the boil
Boil for approx 3-5 mins ( like a boiled egg )depending how how soft/hard you like your egg
Take the coddler out of the pan unscrew the top & serve the coddled egg with bread & butter or toast soldiers !!
Lovely shot Beryl. I've got two stored away somewhere. They are a good idea but I think I only used ours once!

I've got five of these but not one like yours! I think they are fabulous and make a great breakfast! I put cheese and bacon or onion or mushroom in the bottom or on top. The painting is beautiful, isn't' it!

That looks too nice to have egg in it and then boiled! It's really pretty and a great choice for the word of the day.

I have heard of coddled eggs but never tried one....I think I would like them...I might look in the charity shops & see if I can get one of these....hope you are feeling stronger each day Beryl.

@purplehaze12 This one was a gift given to my Grandmother back in the 60/70 's --I do not think it was ever used --but as an ornament . eventually it came to me & again used as an ornament with two other pieces of Ainsley in the same design

@maggiemae Thanks Maggiemae --I vaguely remember that you could put other food stuff in with the egg !! but I have never used it !!!

@sturnus That-s the way I felt about it --as it is a piece of fine Ainsley china --even the chrome looks a bit cheap on it !!

@happypat Pat I also love to rummage in Charity Shops --when I was teaching - I didn't dare go into the charity shops in case the school children saw me there ---what silly pride & snobbishness on my part !!

Hmm I am going to have to look out for one of these - I think I may have had a coddled egg in Germany when I was 6 or 7 and they put cream in, which was too rich at that age but now... Great nostalgic shot.

@tremerryn Ah ! yes now that you have mentioned it I believe cream was added to the egg - thanks for your input --I was desperately trying to remember how it was done ! !!

That sounds interesting but your egg coddler looks far too precious to do that with it, Beryl!

Lovely shot!! I've got a couple, too!! Bought them because I thought they were pretty, rather than use them for the intended purpose!!

They are also very good with a bit of smoked salmon at the bottom and creme frais or cream on the top!
