Christmas shopping yesterday meant having our lunch in our local pub. Weatherspoon has named this pub opened in Wellington after a local celebrity -William Withering W.W was born in Wellington Shrop . in 1741 and died in Birmingham in 1799 He was an English Botanist ,physician , geologist , chemist , and the discoverer of digitalis.
The walls in the pub are decorated with photos of him and other past local celebrities !
After the lunch I did a great no nonsense Christmas Shopping and got what I had planned to buy -- not finished but the ones I need to parcel and post have been purchased ,Even managed to get some ready made marzipan for my Christmas cake - previously the supermarkets had sold out each time I went shopping ! Now the panic is over (until the next time ! )
Today I am full of aches and pains ,hence a quiet day but will have a go at writing the Christmas cards ! and preserving my energy for my birthday outing tomorrow !!
You are doing well.......you made your own cake too! I usuall get a Christmas cake given by a really good cake maker but she has stopped making them......as only Harry likes cake I have bought a M&S one. Fel now I should have made my own as we have Alex staying but too late now! Nice to have your lunch out,....you would be ready for a sit down!
@happypat Gary would feel deprived if I didn't make a Christmas Cake I can only sample very little of it as I am diabetic I also make a small cake for an elderly friend -- he lives on his own and is so appreciative -a little home made baking is such a treat for him .
Ah ... Wetherspoons . . . my favourite feeding trough! Wherever I go in the UK my first question on getting off the bus is "Can you tell me the way to Wetherspoons, please?" Reliable food at a price I can afford and I know exactly what I'm getting without having to read the menu because they are all the same, and they have bought and preserved so many interesting old buildings - former theatres, post offices, corn halls, etc., and created a really friendly and comfortable atmosphere, and the framed pictures on the walls teach a lot of history. Oh, and if you choose the right meal on the right day, you receive a free drink of your choice too alcoholic or otherwise. Thank you for sharing this; it's one I have not visited but know I would immediately feel "at home" there.
Weatherspoons in Peterborough was the old library and before that a collage. It is now called the Collage Arms.I haven't been there for years but know it is very good food. Nice candid capture beryl. Pleased to hear you have some of your shopping done and hope you are not too tired out after it.
Well done you, I've only managed to get a few presents so far and I have a BIG family so there's still lots more to get done. Steve usually takes a day off so we can go Christmas shopping (I think he only goes for the coffee and cakes!) but is too busy at work after our holiday so I'm going to have to get my act together pretty soon! This looks like a nice and relaxing place to have lunch. Take care Beryl and don't overdo things!
A great capture and processing on this nice pic. Thanks for writing the interesting history. Love to see all those beautiful people so lovely together .Fav.
I love your pub shot. Looks busy and fun.
