I have managed to put the Marzipan on the cakes --I make two --one small cake for an elderly friend( ha ha - he is a few years younger than me ! ) -who is on his own and a home made cake is a treat for him !
Now I must try to ice them --but I can not cope with making Royal Icing with my aches and pains so have to bow down to use the roll out icing which I do not find as nice as the Royal icing .
I had a phone call from my GP this morning (after my blood test last week )and I need to up my steroids again to try and control my pain symptoms -- Oh well ! shall struggle along !
Sorry about the steroids, Beryl - keep going and all the best. One of my to-do jobs today is the marzipan. I agree with what you say about making royal icing. Ray usually does ours. If you were nearer, I'm sure he'd come over and help. Like your presentation!
@quietpurplehaze@wendyfrost Thank you both for your kind comments and thoughts The trouble is I have been on steroids and other medication for the Polymyalgia for over 3 years -and was on a gradual reduce dose of steroids regime and I was hoping to come off them by Christmas !!!! but that will not happen for a long time now !!
Very nice images of your project. How nice of you to make one for your friend. Hope you feel better soon. I'm going through a lot of pain period on my hip, I'm using a cane :( and looking forward to my doctor's appt on Friday.
How lovely of you to make a cake for your friend too. Looks delicious. Hope the increased corticosteroids do the trick and that your pain is managed soon.
Younare a star Beryl.....I hang my head in shame because our cake is courtesy of M&S! My DIL mum a,ways used to make ours but can't manage it now because of arthritis & as Harry is the cKe eater in our house we just get a ready made one now. Lazy me!
I might be keener if I liked Chrustmas cake! My sister put me to shame when I talked to her the other day.....making her cake, pudding & mincemeat & she is going through chemo.
It all looks very festive & will be so worth the effort.
I too am guilty of being a no cake baker! A friend has made one for us and I know it will be so much better than any I could have made. Well done Beryl
The trouble with steroids is that it will ruin your professional sports career as you will now fail all the drug tests. So it looks like a career as a cake maker or better still a photographer will have to do.
Great shots. I am impressed that you made this cake. That is far beyond my ability. I have to use steroids for my asthma--sometimes more and sometimes less. They are a pain, but necessary to treat my illness. I hope the steroids help you with your pain.
@mittens Marilyn @daisymiller Daisy Thank you both for your comments and concern . and Daisy these steroids do make a difference -- I was hoping to gradually come off them but at the moment I must be be grateful for the pain relief in any form !
You are of very generous spirit Beryl to make cakes for others and not be able to enjoy them too! I hope and pray that your pain will gradually dim for you and you can enjoy the Christmas season!
