Easter Blessings

A very Happy Day to you all on this Easter Sunday. This year I have made a Simnel Cake which is traditionally eaten on Easter day .The Christian fasting and repenting period of Lent end on Easter Sunday and gives people a tasty treat to marks the celebration of Easter This cake is symbolic of Easter , and decorated to signify aspects of Christianity . A fruit cake with a layer of marzipan in the middle of the cake and on top .It is decorated with 11 marzipan balls ( in my case 11 Easter eggs !) placed a circle to represent the 11 disciples of Christ - omitting Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus .

Beautiful and very symbolic of the season. We celebrate with the traditional figolli which are shapes suc as fish, lamb, bunny, heart ect., made of pastry filled with marzipan and decorated with icing or chocolate. Some people add a small Easter egg on top.
