What a day we had yesterday !! I had been to the frint room and as per usual Alfie followed me !! I had my hands full so I just called him out as I went back to the kitchen to prepare our lunch . When I called Gary for lunch he informed me that Alfie had been a little sick in the conservatory and he had cleared up the mess . i didn't think anything of it !!! All afternoon he did not settle down on the settee with Gary but was very restless pacing up and down the room At tea-time I asked Gary to go to the front room ,nd he discover what the little boy had been up to !! He had found two bars of chocolate and had eaten the lot and just leaving a trail of the wrapping papers on the floor !! When I realised what had happened and seeing his extended tummy . I telephoned the vet , and took him to the surgery with the paper evidence of what he had eaten . The vet checked him over , weighed , heart rate etc and said the dosage was not alarming and so we came home with a little boy in disgrace , ,two bottles of charcoal mixture and syringes ( to counteract the poison ) and a bottle of a liquid (to soothe his stomach and tummy ) This is where the fun and games started trying to syringe the black stuff down his throat -- a messy procedure !! My rubber gloves , his whiskers , and the conservatory floor were rather stained !! And after the stomach medicine , the little dear kept passing wind with every step he took - he looked rather guilty !! hee hee !! He seemed to be back to himself after a bath this morning -- but still has the medicine to take !! You would think he would have learnt a lesson -- oh no he hadn't !! He went straight to the carrier bag where he had found the chocs yesterday !! Today is his 12th birthday -- at least he is still here to tell the tale !!
So sorry, Beryl. What a nightmare as I know chocolate can be really poisonous to dogs. So glad you knew what to do and Alfie is OK. Hope for a quieter day tomorrow. Jinks, although he never had even doggy chocolate, used to go mad for the smell of it.)
@quietpurplehaze Thanks Hazel , The same here I always prided myself in not letting him have any of the food that are no ,no , to dogs ,and like you he has never been given even "doggy chocs" !! Hope you are feeling better by today Hazel !!
Thank you for asking Beryl. The antibiotics seem to have cured the infection but have had to stop taking them as they have made me feel really ill. Very scary and am going to write to the GP practice tomorrow.
What a tale to tell Beryl! Alfie's eyes were greedier than his tummy plus chocolate is out of bounds! Hope he's learnt his lesson! You left with all that worry plus bill from the vets & the hassle of medicine giving! Naughty Alfie, short rations for you!
@happypat Yes it was rather an expensive couple of bars chocolate -- When I got the bill I was absolutely stunned to the cost of the consultation in comparison to the cost of the drugs ! -- we were only in the room for less than 5 mins !! but it was better to be safe than sorry !!
He looks half guilty, half sick. Naughty Alfie, but then, chocolate is very very hard to resist. Good it turned out okay for him Beryl, what a day for you all.
Poor boy! Naughty naughty! Too much partying for his birthday! I am glad he survived! That happened to one of my dog's many years ago...ate an entire cookie/pastry/chocolate tray during the holidays while we were out to dinner. She used a chair and jumped up on the table to reach it. She looked like a pregnant donkey (bloated to the max) by the time we returned home but shortly after, it all came back up on its own...LOL!
Sorry to hear Alfie has made himself poorly I hope he recovers quickly he does look very sorry for himself. Happy Birthday Alfie you are a big boy now.
Thank you for asking Beryl. The antibiotics seem to have cured the infection but have had to stop taking them as they have made me feel really ill. Very scary and am going to write to the GP practice tomorrow.
Hope he feels better soon 🐶
