After much research ( you would think I was purchasing the crown jewels !! ) and deliberation . I chose the Kenwood chef , and couldn't wait to try it out . My old Chef worked well for me for over 30 years , and I hope this one will see me out !! I was more than pleased with the workmanship in the machine smooth running and made a beautiful Victoria Sandwich . I suppose all this research and comparison comes from how I would choose new equipment when in charge of the my department when teaching -- all habits die hard . I have a couple of attachment that will fit this model ! So all is good ! ! OOPS ! I should have peeled off the 5yr guarantee sticker before the photo shoot !
@louannwarren Just an ordinary sponge cake made by the creaming method , baked in 2 tins and sandwiched together with jam and butter icing -- I suppose a tribute to Queen Victoria !!
Was just about to say what Carole just said. My parents gave us a Kenwood Chef as a wedding present; I gave myself a Kitchen Aid as a Christmas present a couple of years ago (make own bread and cakes with it).
@carole_sandford - I had a toss up between the Kenwood and Kitchen Aid - both score well - but liked the trad design of the Kenwood and stuck to a machine I knew !!
@phil_sandford see my comment to Carole - but I am quite excited in getting back into the baking groove - Haven't made bread for years , in fact a lot of things have slipped by with the constant arthritic issues - I didn't realise how much I missed my Chef !!
Ha ha Beryl but at least you photographic proof of its 5 year guarantee Beryl! I never make cakes these days, well very rarely, I make biscuits & use a small hand held mixer when I need to make such as Yorkshire puddings etc. So glad you are getting your love of baking back.....it’s a pleasure to turn out a great cake.
We still have Steve's original Kenwood Chef that belonged to his mother who died in 1984. I'm sure that it would probably work well still but it's a bit big to hang around the kitchen so I use a hand mixer. I have stopped making cakes now as I have to attend the Diabetic Prevention Group due to raised fasting blood sugar which is a shame as I love baking and also eating cakes. I used to make all my own bread when the children were young but don't do that either now. Nice that you have settled on a mixer you like.
@rosiekind - I don't know why I am so thrilled as I eat very little of my baking - being diabetic ( but still am able to control it with diet ) and I am lucky I do not have a very sweet tooth ! I do have a hand mixer but find my arthritic condition makes it painful to hold for any length of time ! Thanks for your comment Rosie !
