A recipe as requested by Lois @loweygrace .This is a new recipe for me and found delicious , as you can see we had eaten quite a fair chunk before I thought of taking a photo!
Ingredients .--110g chopped cooking dates , 55g margarine , 225ml boiling water ,1teasp bicarbonate of soda , 225g S.R.Flour 55g chopped walnuts , 170g brown sugar , 1 egg ,
Tin -900g(2lb)loaf tin , Oven- Electric170c /Gas3 /Electric fan150c
Method -- 1) Place chopped dates , margarine , boiling water , and bicarbonate of soda ,in a basin, mix to melt the margarine --- Allow to cool. 2) In mixing bowl ,add SR Flour ,chopped walnuts , and sugar , Mix and add to the cooled basin of date mixture , , Mix well and add the beaten egg 3),Spoon the mixture into the greased and lined loaf tin ( I use the pre shaped liners ) 4)Bake 60-75 mins in preheated oven @170c /gas3 /fan150c till baked (can test with skewer) 5) Cool on a wire rack , Slice and spread with butter -- Delicious , Enjoy .
@taffy- I forgotten that your baking ingredient vary from ours in UK ! I shall try to explain , Self raising flour is an all purpose flour with pre added raising agent in the form of baking powder (or baking soda ) Just read it up , you can make SR flour by adding 2 teasp of baking powder (soda) to each 150g plain(all purpose) flour -- hope this info will help !
