A new lease of roof! by billdavidson

A new lease of roof!

This ancient shed in the garden had its roof re-felted today. Maybe needs a coat of paint now!
How interesting! What does the felt go over? Is it a special type of felt? Pardon the questions but I’ve a background in construction and we do things quite differently here and there’s so much to learn from different approaches!

I love its texture, and color!

@kartia The roof is made of what we call chipboard, reconstituted wood from wood chips or shavings. It was then covered with roofing felt, using three left over pieces which was just enough to cover the roof!!

Thanks Bill. Is the chipboard and/or felt impregnated with a waterproofing agent? We use chipboard here but not in applications where it would get wet. And no felt in construction here 🤷‍♀️ fascinating how many ways to achieve the same end! And good job btw 😊

@kartia Hi Kartia. We call it roofing felt, but it’s not to be confused with the soft felt material. Roofing felt comes in stiff rolls and is totally waterproof. Being a Scot, I was delighted that the job was completed with remnants!!
