Went to Rochester Sweeps festival today got there early thinking it all started around 9:30ish/10ish but the dancing didn't start till around 11ish and then not much activity going on. Its changed a lot since first started going but I am talking 22 years on..... as we were passing by on the way back from somewhere when Becka was about 3 (and she will be 26 in June!) so parked up and so much fun and have been going every year since but it certainly isn't as busy with morris dancers now as it was back then... So we left around midday as still not many dancers as in previous years. So got back home and had fun with photography.
@shannejw It seems to have now gone more towards music than the Morris dancing, As no stages for the dancers anymore either. My daughter Becka and her boyfriend went on Saturday and they enjoyed it but don't think she remembers it like I and my hubby do. Not so many stalls and even Becka said that the sweet shop didn't have the 50p bags of sweets outside like previous years.
Hi there, thank you for the follow! Very happy to follow you too.
In the 44 years that my husband's been involved with the Morris we've seen how much it has evolved - lots more Border sides now (the ones who wear dark colours and tatter coats) and lots more women's/mixed sides too.
He hasn't been to the Sweeps for years, though.
This is a fun and colourful abstract - very cool!

According to the website there were 60 sides at the festival, performing across the three days. The festival started on the Saturday.
