Yesterday I posted a shot of the Federal Building. When It was being designed the thought was to build it where the Main Library stands today. They of couse chose a site close to the Legislatue Building forming what is now known as Government Centre.
This Library opened in 1967 as a project for Canada's Centennial Year and was name the Centennial Library. It sits on the site that was once used for Edmonton's first City Farmers Market. It has a section downstairs that is use to watch movies during the local film festival held every year as well as a Second Cup. Behind the library is the Centennial Plaza an open area used during the different festivals held each year in Churchill Square.
Tomorrow, a look at the site of Edmonton's first Library and what stands there today
@cfitzgerald It is interesting what others think about buildings. I took this shot because of how it fits into this series of photos I have been doing. I have never thought much of the building itself
Edmonton has done a wonderful job of blending all their different buildings together no matter when they were built. I like how the library seems to "match" the taller buildings in the background. Nice shot.
Again..thanks for the info on Edmonton...BTW...is every new building in Edmonton Tan...it seems like so many planners during that time used the same neutral colors...
Was just posting a shot of the library (again) and noticed that you'd commented on my original shot - had to come check out yours! Love the lighting you've captured here, but you're right Vancouver's building design for our library has got this beat:)
