I really did not know what to post today when I came across an old painted Advertisemnt on the side of this building. It is in the Boyle Street area of downtown which is not the nicest part of the city and may explain why I don't visit here very often. In fact I never even knew that this one was here. I know tht in this day andage it may not be the most politically correct sign but I thought it mad a great shot and it definitely is a connection to part of our past
love the vintage look of this! i've actually spent tons of time in the Boyle street area while in Nursing school. we did some projects in the area, but for sure not a nice area to be.
Definitely a great shot! If anything for the lost art of painting the billboard sign rather than stretching pre-printed plastic across the frame of one. I like the colors- faded and vintage looking. You've framed it very nicely too.
This sign must have had very bold colors to be still noticeable as much as it is after all the years of south side sun exposure... those were the days were cigarette advertisement was still allowed.. great find bkb.
Thanks. I don't have an exact date on the sign. The building was built in 1911 and in the 1920's it was home to a Ukrainian Bookstore which is still around only in a different location.
@pwallis I don't know the exact date of the sign. The Building was built in 1911 and in the 1920's it was home to a Ukrainian Bookstore which is still around today located about a block over
Great find! My husband watches a show called "American Pickers" where 2 guys go around the back country of America and buy up old signs and junk. (and of course resell them for lots more!) This would fit right in.
@aromatic Thanks. I was so pleased to have found this one
