Recently I have been doing a Then and Now Series. Today I thought I would go with a building that was built in 1914 and is still standing and being used today.
This building was opened in 1915 as McCray's Garage. Milton McCray operated his garage until 1937. In 1940 the Chicago Vocational School started to run out of this building. It offered programs in mechanics, refrigeration, welding, photography and T V repair. It operated until 1970.
For several years now it has been home to a couple of different restaurants. Today it is a reataurant called Original Joes.
It is nice to see that some of our old buildings are still around even today
Such and interesting history for the building- and a variety of businesses there. It just goes to show if you can adjust and adapt to change, you'll last a long time!
I Love your series of Old buildings ! This is just Great! Lots of History here! You may be the only one with these great shots and could put a book together someday!! :)
beautiful vintage capture and some nice history to go with! I have been following Vintage toronto on facebook and have been so in love with all the pics of then and now that they have put up.. I am developing a real love for history, this shot is great =)
@mrssmith Yes and one of these days I really want to go inside and check it out to see what if any of the original building is still intact on the inside
@bkbinthecity in facebook search for vintage Toronto..but be careful...lol...I found it is taking lots of my time..very interesting stuff dating back to pre-WW1
isn't it something what this hobby we acquired have gotten us to do? we become history buffs, or our knowledge of birds and plants became better than when we were in school, and of course we get to "meet" people from all over the maps. in ordinary times, we would never have even looked at the structure even when we're inside it. great shot, brian.
