Well today is Flag Day. So I thought I would stop at City Hall on the way to work this morning. We have three flags flying here. The Provincial, Canadian and Municipal flags
Since it has been so windy this spring I figured it would be no problem getting a nice shot.As you can see Mother Nature decided not to co-operate.
A little bit of info on the Canadian Flag. It was officially introduced in 1965. Prior to that we flew the Royal Union Flag. A ceremony was held on Feb. 15 1965 to celebrate the new flag and Canada now has it's own National Flag Day on that day each year
So happy Flag Day everyone
June 14 is Flag Day in the US Are you saying today is also Flag Day in Canada or is Feb. 15 your Flag Day? I never realized your national flag is so young!
I tried to get a flag shot a few days ago - it took me ages to get the darned thing to belly out nicely - you have done this shot with aplomb - as always.
@allie912 Well some people celebrate flag day here on this day. Our flag day is actually on Feb 15 . I know it is a little surprising that our flag is so young
heavens! i thought they changed our flag day to june and i didn't know about it. you made me nervous there, brian! hahaha. it is the american's flag day today. whew! well this shot isn't bad, it's showing action. very nice!
I didn't realize the Canadian Flag was introduced in my lifetime- wow! That's one of the things I enjoy about this site. You learn really interesting things while looking at pictures from all around the world! Sorry about the lack of wind- but you did the best you could!
Thanks for the information on our flag. I wasn't aware of Flag Day in February or June! I do remember that when we were young my dad had a Union Jack flag displayed on a pole in our yard. both of my parents were of British heritage.
@allie912 Yes it was a very sad day here for sure. Apparently it was one employee of the armoured car company who shot and killed three guards and wounded another one in a robbery. They have identified the suspect and even know where he lives. I am sure it will only be a matter of time before they catch him.
@carwyn3 Going from left to right. The Blue on is the Alberta Provincial Flag, the middle one is the Canadian Flag and the blue and white one is the City of Edmonton Flag. One of these days I will try to get a shot where you can actually see them
@cindyrez Well the little wind there was stopped about 30 seconds after I took this shot and the flags were just hanging there then. So I have to glad for this one
@summerfield Sorry was not trying to upset the proverbial apple cart. Even though our flag day is in Feb. It is usually easier to get a nicer shot in June as opposed to the middle of winter
