Well today I end the tour of the five parks in Edmonton named after Canada's Famous Five. Located near the University of Alberta in the river valley is Emily Murphy Park. Like the others this is certainly a nice place for a walk. In this park is a statue of Emily Murphy and on the grounds of the U of A is the house in which her and her husband lived until her death.
Emily Murphy was born in 1868 in Cookstown ON and passed away in 1933 here in Edmonton, her remains are in the Mausoleum in the Edmonton Cemetery.
She was the first woman appointed to the Edmonton Hospital Board. In 1916 she was appointed by the Attorney General as a police magistrate, the first woman to hold this position in Alberta and in the British Empire. In 1919 she was appointed president of the Federation of Womens Institution of Canada. She was also an author and wrote four novels under the name Janey Canuck
I trust you all enjoyed this weeks tour. I hope you will all have a great week
great collage and series, like the tree shaded path for a quiet stroll. Thank you for taking the time and going to each of the 5 and explaining them to us.
