The idea behind those words has certainly changed over the years. The days of receiving an actual letter or card in the mail seems to be a thing of the past. However, mail delivery continues each day despite that.
Each day when I arrive home this is the sight I usually see as the man who delivers our mail parks in front of our apartment building and then proceeds to walk through the neighbourhood doing his job.
No letters or cards for us today. However, I did receive an invitation from Industrial Canada to participate in a survey.
I remember when here in the States, we used to get mail delivery once in the morning and again in the afternoon...now once a day, and they are contemplating no deliveries on Saturdays.....this is called progress?
So true you are about the difference between yesterday and today's mail. I am so glad you are sharing this shot. Our mail trucks look quite different - much more square.
@tonyjsisti You get delivery on SATURDAYS! Haven't had that in years. And the day of house to house is rapidly fading as the new super-boxes are becoming the norm!
Great memory shot Brian. My brother-in-law delivers mail in Edmonton, has for almost 30 or 35 years!
What a great invitation! I bet you are dying to be part of the survey! I get them by email all the time with a reward of going into a draw to win $5000! I'm still waiting!
Mail has changed so much in the last decade. We still have delivery here but in our community it goes to a mailbox not to our door. A lot of it's what we call "junk mail". But we do get an occasional card, letter or delivery through the post office this way. Your mail truck lots a lot more modern than ours! But I think email has changed the mail system forever.
I don't think I have ever thought about what a mailman drives in other countries...it does not look at all like our mail trucks. yes, times have changed...we don't get much in the mail these days except for right now the boxes are full of political flyers...I will be glad when the election is over! another thing new in this shot is the use of the @ on the bench....I doubt 25 years ago that anybody would even have known what it was for.
today i got two bills. i refuse to have my bills delivered online. until it's become the law to not have paper bills, i'll keep the post office people working. nice one, brian.
Love the composition! and the story is great! My kids really miss having mail delivered (too unreliable here), we used to send them something when they were staying with my mum in the UK!!!!!
I love my mail lady...I still mail out quite a bit of stuff through snail mail ..I know way to many people who work for the US mail and have to keep them working!!!!
We grumble about our mail deliveries all the time in the UK but reading this I think we do well. Deliveries every day except Sundays & Bank Holidays & the mail is delivered either by red van, bicycle or on foot with carts. The price of stamps has just shot up to 60pence foe a first class. There is a lot of junk mail here too!
It`s still happens by us , receive to day a picture postcard of our suns holiday. Still like it. ( what about Xmas cards ? ) But it sill become less and less and the price of the stamps more and more
@maggiemae No rewards from this one but I did recieve a wonderful holiday package from the Heart and Stroke Foundation today.Twelve Christmas cards labels a nice pen and a note pad.
@olivetreeann E-mail has definitely changed a lot of things. This truck is a fairly new addition to the fleet. I think they are much more economical on gas compared to the older and much bigger trucks
@vickisfotos These trucks are a new addition to the fleet and I am sure they are much more economical on gas. Good eye spotting the bench and yes I am sure you are right about that symbol
