I left work early today to meet Mel for an appointment we had. As I was walking there I passed by this old brewery.
This is the old Edmonton Brewery and Malting Co. It was built in 1913 by one of Edmonton's early pioneers, William Henry Sheppard. He had built his original brewery in 1904 in the river valley. That building is still standing and is now being restored and converted into a small hotel and boutique.
When his business had outgrown the original building he drew up plans to build a new plant. This location over the years saw different owners and a couple of additions. The last owner was Molsons and they closed the plant in 2007. For a while there was questions as to what would happen to this building. Now the City has decided to add the original structure (the tallest one) and the 1924 addition to the Provincial Historic Resources List.
Not sure what will go into the building once all is said and done. Time will tell I suppose. So Cheers everyone and have a great weekend
What a wonderfully preserved historic building! I envy those that have preserved historic buildings because those of the past that were in this area did not take care of anything, so there is very little preserved for those to enjoy.
@psychographer I should clarify myself it is the original building on the southside that is being turned into a hotel. I am not sure what they are doing with this one
I see some similarities between your brewery and mine . . . the one I posted is not a working brewery anymore and now has shops and a winery. You can have meetings there and there is a large patio outside. My brewery is on the Mississippi River in Dubuque Iowa
