So today the challenge was to get a shot of something Near You. Either a public attraction or just a shot of where you live.
I decided to make a stop on the way to work at the Edmonton Public School Archives and Museum. It is located in Dick Mather Park, which is named after a gentleman who was a city councillor and for many years a public school trustee.
I have featured these buildings on my project before but never shots that were taken this early in the morning.
The first one is the Edmonton Settlement School which was a one-room school house that was built in 1881 and today is used for field trips so students can get an idea of what it was like to attend school back then. The second one is the McKay Avenue School which was the first brick school house built in Edmonton. It dates back to 1904. I also took a shot of the gazeebo that sits in the middle of the park.
The Museum which includes both schools is also open to the public during the week and is free. They accept donations but for the most part the cost is covered by the Edmonton Public School Board
nice collage! i would like to make one suggestion, though - often when i go to look at your pictures with the magnifying glass, they don't get much bigger... are you able to upload larger file sizes? the details are difficult to see :)
So good these buildings are still standing. It must be interesting to all to see the changes over they years. These photos are beautiful in the night light!
@speedy0901 I am trying to find a solution to that maybe one of these days I will solve this problem. If you want a better look at these two buildings go to my shots from Oct 12, 2011 and June 24, 2011
Great shot to think of for this challenge.I love history. I also seeing old school houses and thinking about what it was like back then. I really get a kick out of reading some of rules that were in place - like the strict rules for teachers.
