Continuing with a few shots taken last year when we went to Winnipeg. This is on the side of the old Salvation Army Building. The Harbour Light was a street mission in downtown Winnipeg.
My mother-in-law after graduating from the Salvation Army Training College in Toronto she was stationed in Winnipeg. A number of the officers would go down here to help with services being held here.
She was quite pleased to be able to see the building and this sign once again. It is now vacant. It was also quite interesting for us to be able to listen to some of the stories she had to tell us
Love this sign and what it means to your mother-in-law and family. Since you started this series I now notice the old signs in my community! So interesting!
I wish it was still occupied- did they close down altogether or just move to another location? I love how there are several layers of the sign and that it is another sign which has significance to your family. Great capture Brian!
I think this is my favorite of the sign photos you posted so far. I like both the sign and the other details of the building. I'll bet your mother-in-law has some great stories--the Salvation Army does such good work.
Harbour Light....strange name for a building in the prairies...but no more strange I guess than the building I work at called Lighthouse here in Kamloops being a desert..
I love the sense of hope conveyed through this sign, and the lighthouse image. How great that you can relate it to a family member's memories and experience! I think that your sign pictures are really neat!
