Today with the word being remember and of course this being 9/11 I have put together this collage. In Old Strathcona next to the Old Fire Hall, which I posted a few weeks ago, is the Firefighters Memorial Plaza. Ever since 9/11 a special service has been held here to remember all of the firefighters who either have died on the job or simply have passed away. This year 18 members of the Edmonton Fire Department have passed away. Some of them were retired while some were still serving. Thankfully none of them died while on the job. The statue is entitled The rescue. The Centre photo is a monument explaining the statue and the Bell Tower. The Bell Tower on the right is a replica of the original bell tower that sat atop the Fire Hall when it was first built.
Here is to all of those who give of themselves to keep all of us safe
Wonderful tribute. Their courage and selflessness earns our respect. Those caught up in fires and disasters - for them it is accidental, unplanned. For the fire fighters and rescuers - they know the dangers they are going into. They are very brave. Understatement.
I have two cousins who have served in the fire department and one is now fire chief. It is definitely a dangerous and self-sacrificing job. This is a nice tribute to those who serve.
A very thoughtful collage. I didn't post a picture in honor of 9/11 but i did wear my pin of the firefighters raising the flag. It is hard to believe that none of my students were born on that terrible day. For them it is history.
Wonderful collage and a fitting tribute. We were travelling on that day and so I won't have a photo for tribute for that day....but I certainly remember it well and am thankful for all the men and women who serve to keep us safe and rescue us in times of need.
