On the last school day prior to Remembrance Day , which is Monday, students from schools across the city participate in a ceremony to honor war veterans. They go to the different cemeteries in across the city and lay a poppy at each military tombstone. I stopped by Beechmount Cemetery on my way home to reflect for a few moments and to take a couple of pictures. It is a long weekend here and I do hope that each of you have a wonderful weekend
Beautiful shot, love the red poppy on the snow. It's so important that we show our students and children what respect looks like,( nice school district). Lovely sentiment! Thank you!
Great POV and I like seeing the snow. It is a lovely tradition. Sometime here (I can't remember the date) they are going to put flags on Veterans graves. My husband is volunteering to help with that.
What a great way to teach and involve the children in how important our military were/are in giving them what they have today. Nice photo and nice dedication.
I think that having the students lay the poppies on the graves is a wonderful way of teaching them the price of freedom. Beautiful shot. I think this one is one of your best!
Beautiful picture and a beautiful idea. When i was in school, Remembrance Day was a holiday, but hasn't been for many years. This attention to veterans' graves reminds me that in Holland, each school child is assigned to look after one grave of a Canadian or other allied soldier. On Christmas Eve, I believe a lighted candle is placed in front of each stone, to burn through the night. I wish we did something like that here.
What a wonderful thing for the school kids to do! Sometimes kids don't always remember what veterans have done for us and this is a great way to remind them. I applaud this tradition!
