So Edmonton is quite privileged to have the Magna Carta here on display. It is a copy of the version from 1300. Also on display is the Charter of the Forest from 1300 as well.
Both documents are on loan from the Durham Cathedral and will be here until the end of December.
It really was quite interesting to see these documents. Unfortunately this picture of the sign promoting the exhibit is the only picture I could take as no pictures were allowed in the room where the documents were displayed
That would be a great experience to see those documents in person. And this sign is very impressive nowadays with all the terrorism and lack of tolerance that is all around us.
Had to chuckle as the sign says "Rights for All" but you did not have the right to take a photo of the display! A lot of museums are like that though so I guess we are used to it!
i've seen part of the magna carta at the salisbury cathedral a long time ago, early 90's, i think. it was quite a hair-raising sight and knowledge to behold, thinking for all our intelligence, it took us hundreds of years to figure out things for ourselves even though we had the idea for so long. and we're still a work in progress. i wonder if the exhibit will hit toronto? i would spend money to see it even though i won't be able to take a photo.
