On Display

So Edmonton is quite privileged to have the Magna Carta here on display. It is a copy of the version from 1300. Also on display is the Charter of the Forest from 1300 as well.
Both documents are on loan from the Durham Cathedral and will be here until the end of December.
It really was quite interesting to see these documents. Unfortunately this picture of the sign promoting the exhibit is the only picture I could take as no pictures were allowed in the room where the documents were displayed
Cool picture.

How wonderful! I love it when the documents make the rounds for people who would never see them otherwise.

Interesting display, and well captured.

I bet that would be an interesting experience to see them. And I bet they have round the clock guards on them too.
December 13th, 2015
Sounds interesting Brian.I can,t see why they don,t allow you to photograph things of interest especially when you will probably never see it again.
December 13th, 2015
That would be a great experience to see those documents in person. And this sign is very impressive nowadays with all the terrorism and lack of tolerance that is all around us.
December 13th, 2015
I guess they have to be careful about preserving documents like that and the flash from cameras would be a problem.
December 13th, 2015
I would love to view them myself, how old were the documents on display?
December 13th, 2015
From 1300, lucky you :-)

@aglennc Yes constant security as well as the actual display case had a motion detector in it so if you even touched the case an alarm would sound

@sangwann Dione it was great to see theses documents
December 14th, 2015
Had to chuckle as the sign says "Rights for All" but you did not have the right to take a photo of the display! A lot of museums are like that though so I guess we are used to it!
December 15th, 2015
@olivetreeann Ann I never thought about that
December 15th, 2015
i've seen part of the magna carta at the salisbury cathedral a long time ago, early 90's, i think. it was quite a hair-raising sight and knowledge to behold, thinking for all our intelligence, it took us hundreds of years to figure out things for ourselves even though we had the idea for so long. and we're still a work in progress. i wonder if the exhibit will hit toronto? i would spend money to see it even though i won't be able to take a photo.
December 17th, 2015
@summerfield Vikki it did not come to Toronto and Edmonton was the last stop on the Canadian part of the exhibit
