Back Away From The Nest by bkbinthecity

Back Away From The Nest

So a couple of pigeons have taken up residence on our balcony. I made this collage. I took the shot of the nest a couple of days ago and I took the picture of the mother this morning when I went to check on the nest after a huge windstorm last night. Everything was fine but it was the mother was glaring at me telling me to back away from the nest
Don't mess with mama! It will be fun to watch these little guys hatch!

Yep... Mama birds love their eggs and become quite serious when it comes to protecting them; even if us Humans are just curious about them.

I had two Plovers pounce on me years ago when I wanted to look at their lovely ground nest at my old workplace. Their eggs are blue and white speckled and very tiny... but both parents were pretty ticked to find a Human nearby checking out their unborn family home. Fortunately, I got out of the way of them in time by throwing myself to the ground as they swooped over.... the downside? It had rained all night and I got covered in mud. Guess that's what I got for being curious.

Just as well all you got was a glare from Mama Pigeon.

Hope all goes well for mother and babies--glad the nest is in a friendly place. I read the other day that pigeons mate for life, just like Canada geese.
