Its official name is Migrants. You can read about it from the plaque.
After it was erected in front of the old City Hall it quickly took on the nickname The Spaghetti Tree. When the current City Hall opened in 1992 the city did not bring it back. There was a huge outcry from the citizens and City council listened and found a spot for everyone to enjoy it once again
Well my goodness. I was glad to read the plaque, as when you said “migrants” I thought of people. It’s an interesting sculpture, one of those “beauty in the eye of the beholder” pieces.
Well...I sort of see the hint of flight but it it's truly an abstract (which it is!) then people are going to see all kinds of things in it. I'm glad it's earned its place in Edmonton- if only for the great story that goes along with it. Good shot.
It's so interesting to me! I'm working in a migration museum. Near to the museum, we have a monument for migrants, too, but it's so different! I'm happy they brought it back.
