Day twenty-five of my series on Things Canada is Known For. Today is The Musical Ride. Started by the NWMP in 1887 the Musical Ride a performance on horseback to demonstrate Cavalry drills and riding ability. It has continued over the years except for cancelations during WWI and WWII. Most performances are done by the RCMP. However, occasionally other organizations perform them as well.
This picture was taken in 2012 at a celebration here in Edmonton honoring the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth ll. Performance was done by the Lord Strathcona Royal Horse Regiment.
Occasionally the Musical Ride is performed in other countries . It has been performed in the United States, England, Germany and Switzerland
A good look at this tradition. They are excellent horsepeople (RCMP) and it's always good to see law enforcement getting to do something that's not having them enforce laws.
