I found a white mulberry tree at the end of my road in the middle of a cul-de-sac, so yesterday I grabbed a friend (for company and as my lookout) and laid out a tarp and shook the tree. Three good shakes and I had enough for two pies which I baked today. Three good things:
1. Even ugly pies can taste good
2. Another friend has a black mulberry tree which I will shake tomorrow
3. Picked up some cheap vodka to make mulberry stew (stewed mulberries are wonderful on vanilla ice cream, and the liqueur is very warming in the fall)
There's nothing ugly about those pies. They look absolutely delicious! And stewed mulberries sound fabulous too! You're making the most of neighborhood flora.
