I will be leaving my home in 4 weeks time, to move in with my sweetie 200 miles away to start a new life. I am going to take a fair few self-indulgent photographs of where I live til I go, so I have photo's to look back on.
Today's photo was taken at the annual carnival. Its very very small (its a small town where I live) but it was nice to finally make it. It moved from its usual Saturday spot to today because of the world cup, so this was the first time in the 8 years I've lived in this place that I could make it.
Meet a member of the Southern Skirmish Association, a group of American Civil War enthusiasts who put have put on re-enactment displays since they formed in 1968. There were not that many floats and groups that marched up the high street today, but I was really impressed with these guys. The attention to detail was excellent, even down to the spectacle wearers making suitable glasses to fit in with the costume.
I was spoilt for photo's, but rather liked the captain here.
What a superb photograph! Your central figure is just delightfully on target in his uniform and the soldiers behind him fill the frame so nicely! It's too good not to save as a favourite!
As a re-enactor for another war time frame (American Revolution as a Loyalist; God save the King!) Thanks for your appreciations for what all of us do simply because we love the history of the era.
Great portrait of a great looking character. It's a good idea to take some hometown shots, I didn't before I emmigrated and wish I had some more pictures of 'normal' stuff from day to day life in my old city.
This is beautiful although a little confusing to find a Civil War group in England, no? I think everyone should spend 4 weeks photographing their home as if they're moving away. That would be a great idea for a theme! Good luck,
