Weekly Theme - Depth

by bilbaroo on Dec 11th 2017

We've really enjoyed focusing on some of photography's most essential skills and techniques - especially as some of you will have learnt so much over the past year! Sticking to the same inspiration, this week's theme is depth - as in, "depth of field".

We love this example of Depth of Field by Island Girl, who made it into this week's Top 20:

While many of you feel comfortable using depth of field to 'make' a photo, it can sometimes be a little confusing for beginners! If you need a little help, Digital Photography School have a great guide, packed with info, advice and tips.

The nature of this theme also means you can pretty much focus on any subject or setting for your photography! Plus, even if you're shooting on a Smartphone there are some great editing features on most models, as well as a number of Apps that let you add depth as an after effect.

We hope you enjoy the challenge, we can't wait to see what you come up with!

How to enter this week's theme

When uploading your photos use the tag section (on the edit/organise screen) and insert this week's theme tag: theme-depth.

Entry Guidelines: Photos must be your own and must have been taken and uploaded from Monday 11th December until the following Saturday (6 days). 5 finalists will be chosen on the Sunday afternoon (PST), then you get to vote for the winner.

Winner of the 'Rule of Thirds' theme

Thank you to everyone who too a minute to vote for this week's winner, we're excited to crown @cjphoto as the winner of the rule of thirds theme!

We love how @cjphoto has been thinking outside of the box for their own snack theme for the month. Playing with some simple items and experimenting with composition and the rule of thirds can really pay off. Like they say, "Proof is in the pudding" - or cup of cereal!

Vote for the 'Motion' theme winner

There were some brilliant entries to the motion theme - thank you to everyone who entered!

As always, it was tricky to choose just five finalists, but we managed it in the end. Now it's over to you!

To vote, just reply to this blog post with the number (in digit form) of the photo you would like to see win.
