Those woods are kicking my backside photographically speaking!! Seem to be having a few days in a row where I don't really like the results, hence my procrastination in picking one of the shots to post...
So let me hear the good, the bad and the ugly please! Any comments and tips muchly appreciated. There is a photo competition at work for the hospital's charity and I had very much been hoping to get some newer shots for the countryside and woodlands theme...ah well! I'll be procrastinating again until 31 May ;-)
Thank you all for the comments and views and hello to the new followers! Have been catching up with some of you - you are all gorgeous!
Edit: Have played around with a couple of different crops - would welcome your feedback!
I love this shot, the soft focus is dreamlike but if you are looking for something for a competition, did you take any from the otherside of that curved tree? That looks like it would make a nice angle with the bluebells
looks fine to me although I understand what you mean - I tok a load a few weeks back at a bluebell wood and wasn' happy with any of them.. Have to say too, that a few weeks back the bluebells were on their last legs...
@claireuk Thanks Claire! I didn't dare go further from there, I really would've had to trample all over them :-( I tried some other shots from different angles and in the other direction but really didn't like those lol
I think in this shot my eye goes to the tree in the foreground before the flowers and I don't really like that. Or maybe it's just that the tree has a lot of character so it steals a lot of the attention?
It's a beautiful shot. I can see what Michelle means about the tree in the foreground. I really struggled with taking the photo of the rapeseed field... it just looked flat and didn't pick up the huge distance I was picking up. In the end I tried different heights and angles until I found the one I liked the best, showing up the tops/depth/green/yellow balance. In fact it was a portrait shot which I cropped more square as I felt it gave it more ehm more kapow. (tired) Does that make any sense?!
@mstipe@filsie65 Thanks Michelle and Phil! Really appreciate it. After I posted it I kept staring at this one and one of the things I don't like is the "untidy" tree on the far right. So I tried a different crop and an even closer one following Michelle's impression. have put the links at the top if you'd like to have a look.
@juliehill@fueast@bubbaloooo Thank you all, really appreciate it! Julie, you're right, it just doesn't match up with real life sometimes - our brains are marvellous at blending stuff out I think ;-) Any comments on the other crops I tried would be really appreciated if you have the time
Beautiful shot. Looks dream like. Suggestions for the contest shot: perhaps try a shot from a lower perspective and looking up at the blue bells OR cropping some of the left side and top part of the photo. And DO be Careful of the stinging nettles. I got into some when I was a kid and I still remember that!
don't you hate it when you feel like that about your photos?
i think this is very pretty. i am not sure what you did processing wise, but i think you did a good job because the colors are vibrant, yet not overdone.
Thank you all so much for your comments and your feedback! It's been so useful for me to hear what other people see and how I could maybe improve on the composition etc. I used a very faded orton effect to bring out the colour a bit more and the slightly increase the shade and light on the flowers through the trees.
