Avenue of Human Rights - Strasse der Menschenrechte
Apologies for a very lengthy absence from posting and commenting! Gradually trying to catch up with posting and can't wait to catch up on your projects!
Last full day in Germany with my family in July. Went to the Germanic National Museum to see an amazing exhibition of Albrecht Duerer's early paintings. Outside the museum is a huge outdoor sculpture by Israeli artist Dani Karavan consisting of a gate, 27 round pillars made of white concrete, two pillars buried in the ground showing only a round plate, and one columnar oak, for a total of 30 pillars. Engraved in each pillar is one article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in German and another language. The monument is intended as both a repudiation of past crimes and a permanent reminder that human rights are still regularly violated. Nuremberg's prize for human rights, the Nuremberg International Human Rights Award, is awarded on the site every two years.
Pillar No.12 - No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation.
