The last in his Sally Lockhart series. And though an equally thrilling Victorian adventure - this time set in a fictional tiny country sandwiched between the German and Austrian empires - it barely featured Sally, but no less page turning.
A day mainly spent in the heat of the garden - breakfast, lunch and dinner taken out there. I cycled to the farmers' market and Lidl bringing back an enormous shop in my one pannier - thought I was going to tip over.
Prepared a big ratatouille for later along with baking all the manky old potatoes so would do for dinner and Dave's lunches. Watermelon and feta salad for lunch. Wolfing down the ratatouille, we went off to the folk club for Mossy Christian and Megan Wisdom - fine traditional and contemporary songs and a few tunes from talented young people. Stifling hot in there and I struggled and sweltered, a headache brewing.
3 good things
1. Mum was feeling a little better - still staying home and avoiding the heat.
2. All meals outside and lots of water - thank goodness for clean drinking water.
3. Got our thoughts together for a meal plan and shopping list for a weekend away.
