At the Countryside Live show at the Waterworks nature reserve in Leyton.
Had seen this advertised around this past week and was lured here with the promise of the 'infamous dancing sheep' show. And the chance to get out and see countryside-y things in Walthamstow.
Dave and I drove down with Hilary and Rhian and had a jolly wheeze of a day - dancing sheep indeed, tame ferrets, a fantastic python that was so warm and cuddly (I love snakes), a littel pipistrelle bat, lots of birds of prey - plus loads of stalls with wildlife organisations etc. The only poor element was the catering or lack of. Two stalls - one a Chinese stir fry that didn't look terribly interesting and a burger van. We went for the veggie burger but having gone to put tomato ketchup on it, found it to be the most peculiar pale breadcrumb-covered, slightly warm, definitely unappetising thing I'd ever seen. Rhian was brave and asked for our money back, which thankfully was forthcoming.
We stopped off at the reserve cafe instead after we'd done with the show - that was relatively pathetic too. What is it with this country (well mainly London actually) and food ...
Then we walked back home via Walthamstow marshes (Dave having driven back early) stopping for a quick half in the Copper Mill.
I like this a lot - having been to a couple of country shows this year I found then very difficult to photograph in any sort of artistic way. I blame the dog of course. Shame about the food.
Hope you manage to find something yummy at your next meal!
