Spent the morning packing, wrapping Christmas presents and ferreting about in the fancy dress boxes in preparation for the weekend away at Anna's. Sophie arrived at 12-ish long before we were ready to leave but eventually after a couple of Ryvitas for lunch, we set off – a lovely day of mild, wintry sunshine.
Made good time despite the earlier closure of the M1 after an accident. At Anna’s, we were shown to her new guest room on the top floor – a proper bed instead of the futon, very nice. She was even throwing out some of her old clothes and I snaffled a cardi and skirt.
Downstairs we helped prepare dinner while scoffing Kettle chips, crudities and dips accompanied by a couple of glasses of bubbly. Dinner was a totally splendid aubergine parmigiana with rocket, garlic bread and a caprese salad. Stuff the diet I thought, I’ll have second helpings. I’d brought some chocolate slab which we had for pudding with cheese – I’d got the recipe from my unit leader at work. It’s a heart attack in the making – melted chocolate, salted peanuts and crunchies all mixed up to make an extremely more-ish chocolate fridge cake.
After, we had an extremely entertaining game of Articulate and got introduced to Anna’s cuddly toys including a very fetching hand puppet rat.
Salted peanuts in chocolate sounds like heaven on a plate to me
