Well there's a bit of excitement for you. About an hour or so we had a major power cut - all lights off here and in the street and neighbouring houses. While we floundered about in the dark trying to remember where we'd put torches (haven't got the emergency kit sorted in the new house yet) - the lights came back on.
After watching The Musketeers, popped onto Twitter to find lots of chatter about a gas explosion literally round the corner from us. Trooped outside to find the street all blocked and taped off. A handy policeman told me it was because methane gas builds up in the electricity substations under the pavement and then it only takes a spark to set it off.
That didn't sound too reassuring. Will be avoiding manhole covers in future. No one hurt.
