Krakatoa

A really gripping read for a non-fiction book - not just the story of the most explosive (and loud - apparently nothing has come close to matching its earsplittingness - it was heard over 3000 miles away or something similar) event in human history but covered everything from history, politics, science, biology and botany, and the story of how we came to understand things like plate tectonics (not till the second half of the twentieth century).

Great read. Highly recommended.
