This is not a weird new form of behavior modification, or a cruel punishment for misbehaving on-camera talent.

We were filming some product specialists talking about a new Hyundai vehicle and wanted to record some additional lines we might need while editing. Setting up a microphone in front of a sound-deadening blanket in a remote part of the studio allowed the crew to record the talent off-set while we moved ahead with additional car shots.

This was a little insurance the director described as, "break glass in case of emergency".
