REASON

What is the reason for taking the front wheels off. I've seen it done when someones parks the bicycle somewhere but usually not while transporting it in on the roof of a car..
no I was not the driver..taken out of passenger window and almost missed it too. my camera was in my purse when I saw this car next to us. Happy Independence Day to all my American friends and whoever else celebrates it on today's date.
Cool catch

It helps make a more secure attachment of the bicycle to the rack, also the wind resistance is reduced. Good observation and quick capture.

I think it would make more sense to lug it on the back, and leave it one piece.

Nifty shot :-) I love the background: lots of variety.

Nice shot Bruni....I've wondered the same thing. We just haul our bikes on a bike rack on the back of my husband's truck, in one piece! Glad you asked, now I know why! :)

Beautiful composition, that looks like a perfect day

I never considered the why, I just did it.

Nice one.

The front forks attach to the rack (more secure than bracing the front wheel). Also, it prevents bikes being squished in a rear-ender or parking too close to an object, while also making it more obvious if someone is trying to steal them. It's actually pretty easy to use these racks (I have one on my van, and the roof on that is over 6'6" high).

Nice bikes too. ;)
