When I drove past our park I saw some activities on the ice, since I had some time before my appointment, I stopped the car and a took a few pictures. too bad for the left one the subject was a little too far over to the other shore by the time I parked the car and ready for taking the pic. well it looks like the ice in the Bay is safe now. for how long I don't know as the forecast says it will warm up and rain is to be expected next week.
Really busy lake !! I hope they know when the ice is not any more safe. It was fine to see activities of your lake, our lakes are full of skiers especially when we can again see the sun :)
I have always wondered ow they determine when, and how much, of thrice is safe...and then communicate that to the citizens. Love in Georgia....we just never get much ice...so not something we comprehend!
When I look at that I tell myself, "Self, there is no way I am going out there. My extra weight will be just the right poundage to crack the ice, and in we all go." That makes me really nervous.
@espyetta MaryBeth this might be one way of finding out..saw this guy - see link http://365project.org/bruni/365/2013-01 testing the ice.
but I think common sense should tell you if it's safe or not....and still trucks, snowmobiles and even people fall through the ice. I can quote from recent newpaper articles..now the Bay of Lake Simceo where I live is not very deep and it freezes over faster than the actual lake does.. usually by January the lake is always frozen and pretty safe except this year we had much milder weather with lots of rain. you also have to watch out for open spots on the ice.. or ice drifts, holes that were not marked when a fish hut was moved to different location..all these present danger. some people ride their snowmobiles in the dark with just their headlights to see where they're going. way too dangerous and when rescue teams have to go out there its us taxpayers who foot the bills. big debate going on about that at present.. boy here I'm carrying on, hopefully I didn't bore you with all of this. just like to add thank you so much for commenting on my pictures.
@digitalrn I believe you..but not about the weight. ha ha..funny. I just replied the following to MaryBeth regarding the safety of the ice:

@ruthmouch If you're referring to my pictures from last year yes I posted some.. this year it's like come and go. the lake freezes and then we get warmer weather again. today it's gone up to 3 Celcius, tomorrow will be 6 and Wednesday 10 but the following day it's suppose to go back down to minus 3 then minus 6..so you never know what to expect..I've not been out on the ice yet. thank you so much for all your terrific comments.
